Bas Brokking and Haico Croijmans, both working as Mechanical Lead Engineers at QING, have been closely involved in the further development of the Development Lab. The Lab has not only been upgraded, but has also doubled in size. The expansion was not an end in itself, but a necessary step to enable a different way of working: project-based, structured, and focused on building standardized machines.
“The Development Lab has always been part of QING and our work,” says Haico. “But recently it has taken on a much more prominent role, not only for us, but also for the customer. As a system supplier, we need an environment where the systems can be realized. The solutions become tangible here, before they go to the customer.”
Previously, the lab was mainly used for testing and demonstrations. Now it is equipped to realize complete customer projects. This means that systems are not only designed and tested, but also fully built and validated. This reduces risks, speeds up the process, and increases the quality of the systems.
“We really started from scratch: cleaning up, redesigning, and creating space,” Bas explains. “Now we can actually create a product from start to finish. The knowledge we have built up over many years with machine builders comes together here in practice.”
“The biggest motivator is seeing our ideas come to life,” Bas continues. “We don't just come up with solutions, we build them ourselves. Mechanical and software expertise come together here, which strengthens collaboration. Because we can test everything immediately, we learn faster and ultimately deliver a better product.”
With this change, the Development Lab has become more than just a development space for engineers. "Our lab has truly become QING’s showcase.Customers are involved in the development process here and gain insight into how their solution is created," says Haico.
We are currently working on various projects for a wide range of customers and products, from inspection systems to fully robotized sorting systems.
"Even though it will always be a work in progress, we are proud of what we have achieved!" concludes Bas.
Curious about the Development Lab? Would you like to discover what we can do for your production process? Or can you see yourself working here on innovative projects, together with Bas and Haico? Let us know, we would love to welcome you to our renovated lab.
