Up to 90% less waste in vegetable processing

Extractacore, a British manufacturer of vegetable processing machinery, previously used conventional vision technology to core iceberg lettuce. Due to significant product variation, the system was unable to accurately determine the position and orientation of the core. To ensure complete removal of the core, the cuts were made too large. This resulted in product losses of up to 30%.

QING integrated the STAQ® framework into Extractacore’s existing production line, while retaining the existing robot. By incorporating AI and 3D vision, the system precisely determines the position and orientation of each head of lettuce. This allows the robot to position the blade accurately and cut only where necessary.
