Axxor, a world leader in paper honeycomb production, is constantly developing itself, such as improving quality, reducing costs and increasing productivity. Since 2021, Axxor and QING have been working together on various innovation projects and have developed a strong partnership.

Although QING usually focuses on solutions for the food industry, there are clear similarities between food products and paper honeycomb products. Paper honeycomb is similar to organic materials due to its diversity and strict quality requirements, making it almost like an organic product.

"Through our partnership with QING, we are doubling our specific areas of expertise. Technical talent is hard to come by, with QING you can find it."

Niels van Stijn, Manager Technology at Axxor

Always in development

The company believes in the power of collaboration - both with customers, suppliers and third parties - and sees collaboration as an important means of achieving its own development goals. We sat down with Niels van Stijn, Manager of Technology at Axxor, to discuss the importance of collaboration in innovation projects.

'Our initial need was to supplement technical expertise and capacity. For this we started talking to different parties. What appealed to us in QING's approach was the extra added value in terms of implementing innovation projects,' Niels says.

'As a company, you are as strong as your network; working together enables you to specialize and thus add value. At the same time, you can approach a problem from different well-developed areas of expertise and learn from them. This makes you more agile as an organization because you have quick access to new knowledge and resources.

Improve quality control through innovation

The collaboration focuses on using technology to create a positive impact on society. To continuously improve and further enhance the value of the products, Axxor and QING worked together last year to improve quality control.

Combining Axxor's extensive product and process knowledge with QING's innovation and technological skills, they developed a system that performs real-time, automated online quality inspections. This innovative system has had a significant impact on Axxor's operations by providing greater control and insight into the production process, enabling further optimization.

Ingredients for a successful innovation journey

At the beginning of the collaboration, it was quickly apparent that both parties need each other to achieve the desired result. Niels explains, 'We have the knowledge of making and working with honeycomb. We share this knowledge with QING's engineers to come up with an innovative solution together.'

Just a good idea is not enough. 'Trust and agility are necessary to be successful together in Research & Development projects. We made clear agreements in advance about the do's and don'ts regarding newly developed knowledge and regularly evaluate the ongoing projects in order to make adjustments in time. QING takes a proactive role in this and comes up with valuable questions and suggestions," Niels concludes.

The collaboration between Axxor and QING demonstrates how shared expertise can drive innovation, directly increasing business value. Both companies are proud of this collaboration, which has led to meaningful improvements in quality control and operational efficiency.

'Trust and agility are necessary to be successful together in development projects.
